As we discussed in the last post, email marketing is one of the key ways to make money online.
Yet I’ve been receiving a lot of feedback from a number of you who are unable to monetize your lists.
So here are 7 reasons why you aren’t making money through email marketing:
1. Value Exchange is Important
Time is a limited resource.
For your subscribers to give up their personal time to open and read your email, you have to make it worth their while.
Do this by giving away valuable information.
This can be free e-books, video tutorials, advice, tips, discounts, coupons etc,
You want to keep your potential and existing customers happy and interested, ensuring that they continue to frequent your site and make purchases.
By exchanging value, your subscribers will come to trust you.
If you don’t deliver value in your emails and only blast affiliate offers, your list is going to go stone cold and start marking you as spam!
2. Frequency & Timing
Many marketers make the mistake of sending out too many emails to consumers.
This overload irritates people and could cause them to unsubscribe.
In my opinion, an email a day is fine as long as you include value and story in your mail.
But sending out promotional emails of products every three hours will annoy anyone.
Likewise, sending email too seldom could result in people forgetting who you are.
Think carefully about how often you send out newsletters and emails.
Consider the timing of sending out emails for example, in the morning, afternoon or night.
3. Build loyalty
Worthy email content develops your relationship with your subscribers. You should only share information that would benefit them.
Regularly provide useful and quality content that keeps the reader interested in receiving emails from you.
Propose ways to connect with your brand in social media channels, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Google+ to garner higher brand loyalty.
4. Be Personal
You need to attract and persuade potential customers by tailoring each word and sentence to suit just one person at a time.
By this I mean always addressing subscriber’s by their first name and writing “you” rather than “you guys” or “all of you.”
Does that make sense?
Let them feel like they’re the only one you’re writing to.
Even though they know they’re not. Be personal.
Write your newsletters and broadcast emails in a friendly manner and try to relate to customers as if they were your friend.
By constantly keeping in touch, a strong relationship can be built. It is a simple but effective method that will help you convert your list.
5. You Don’t Have Your Own Product
You need to have your own product.
Yes, a lot of guys make a killing as affiliates.
But if you really want to have that authority and be seen as a brand, you must possess your own product.
You gain more trust from subscribers. It conveys a message to them, telling them you are serious and an expert in your niche.
Customers have more interest and confidence in the product if the seller is the product creator.
6. Test Different Platforms
People receive and read their email through different gadgets, software and browsers.
Some browsers experience regular issues and cannot process complex emails. For example, if your emails are not mobile friendly, customers cannot access or read the emails on their mobile devices.
You need to ensure that all the display of your emails is standardized on all gadgets.
7. Strong Call to Action
You should make sure that each and every email you send contains at least one call-to-action with a hyperlink.
A call to action combined with a link makes it easier for the reader to take action and respond.
You should take full advantage of your call to action by placing it in an eye catching position directly above the fold to increase click-through rate.
It doesn’t have to be to an offer page, but at the very least back to your own website.
