The idea of working from home is really appealing and I think is the main driving force for most people who decide to jump into this whole make money online thing.
Am I right?
Now no matter how many hours you spend at your job, at the end of the day you end up back home.
So if you’re not working on your website or product or affiliate campaigns then… what’s stopping you?
You said you wanted to work from home right?
Too tired at the end of a stressful day? How about weekends?
You can’t possibly be spending every hour of your weekend doing something more important than setting up your very own business…
I imagine a ton of really good reasons are running through your head right now. I call them excuses.
Facebook, breakfast, Twitter, TV, your bed, your phone, the housework, the garden, your bed, lunch, TV, your bed.
Yes, the thought of working from home is awesome.
You get to choose your hours and be your own boss and not have to report to anyone and do things the way you want to.
But it doesn’t really turn out that way… Distractions are endless.
So here are my top tips to increase your productivity and jump-start your business!
1. Pick Your Hours
This is one of the main reasons why people want to go into Internet marketing.
Having the freedom to work when they want.
But I recommend you take it a step further.
To really up your productivity, figure out your peak hours and stick to it.
I like to start my day late.
Go through my emails. Respond. Set appointments and meetings.
Then I switch off my work mode and do stuff that I enjoy.
It’s only in the evening that I’ll actually sit in front of my computer and get shit done. Because that’s when I’m at my most productive.
This is obviously not the case for everyone.
You may be an early morning kind of person.
So if you’re still working full time, wake up an hour earlier and work on your online business before going to your job.
Even with just one solid hour of work during your productivity peak, the progress you make will be significant!
2. Quit Wasting Time On TV
It’s not that great anyway.
Plus I know you’re just lazing on your sofa surfing through endless channels of nothing.
And the entire time you’re thinking about working.
Stop thinking about working. Just work.
3. Go Step by Step
All ideas start off big and shiny and beautiful.
But if you try to achieve that big picture immediately, it’s going to be overwhelming. In fact, a lot of people will quit before they even start because that idea just seems so huge to achieve.
That’s why a smarter way of working is to plan out the journey to reach that big picture in a step-by-step process.
If you want to create your own product and make a ton of money out of it.
Your first step would be to select your niche.
Yes. As step-by-step as that!
Do some research. Consider if you want to create the product yourself, outsource it to someone else or purchase a PLR pack.
Things like that.
Baby steps that all head in the right direction will make you uber productive.
There’s no better feeling than ticking off tasks on a long to-do list!
4. Celebrate Mini Milestones
It’s not easy to keep going when that final goal is so huge and seems really faraway.
Once you break down everything into a step-by-step process, you should celebrate every time you hit a mini milestone.
This is a great way to stay motivated and keep the momentum up.
It doesn’t have to be some lavish party or anything.
Create a celebration video and post it on YouTube. Or take your kids to the park and have a picnic. Or have dinner with friends.
Do something that makes you happy and creates a memory of your success.
5. Blog It
Keep a blog to record your progress and achievements.
Reading past posts to see how far you’ve come since then is a great way to keep you motivated on days when nothing seems to be going your way.
Plus you stay accountable and are always working towards improvement and growth.
6. Schedule Your Life
That’s a scary sounding header.
All I mean is that you should schedule your time to include everything.
Wait, that doesn’t sound any better.
You need a schedule. Include your play time in that schedule. Then schedule your work tasks around your play time.
When you know that you only have 1 hour to finish a task before you meet your friends for a movie, your productivity will soar.
7. Switch Off Your Phone
You know how it is.
You’re at your computer. Finally ready to get stuff done.
You’ve got a game plan. You’re gonna work.
And then…
You get a Twitter notification on your phone. Or a reply to a Facebook update you posted. Or you think, “I’m just gonna finish this one level on Candy Crush and then… I’ll start working…”
Put your phone away people. Just put it away.
Same goes for your tablet, iPad, and any other tech toy you find so much joy in.
That’s for your play time portion of your schedule.
8. Set Up Your Office at Home
When you’re working from home, it’s a good idea to set up your personal office.
I took my brother’s old room.
He has no where to sleep now.
But at least I get my own office at home.
And I’m more important 😛
Set up your work desk, sit there and get your work done.
9. Change of Scenery
If there are too many distractions at home then go somewhere else.
A coffee shop. The local library. McDonald’s wifi is pretty dope.
I find that if I can’t concentrate at home, getting out of the house with the intention of work does wonders.
