As you may already know, a major part of SEO, is getting backlinks to your content. The thing that most people misunderstand is the quantity and quality of links. I’m a big fan of white hat SEO and pretty much frown upon black hat techniques. After all, when Google launched its Panda and Penguin updates, it’s the black hat people that lost 40-50% of their traffic, not me. 😉
I’m in the middle of promoting the ShoeMoney launch and while searching Google, I found some crazy link building by a fellow affiliate. When there’s lots of money on the line, affiliates engage in all types of crazy schemes. Look what I found…
This affiliate is on page 4 for the keyword ‘shoe in money’ which generates about 183,000,000 results. The best part about this affiliate is that they were able to get a link from an authority site: LinkinPark.
One might ask, ‘Why on earth would they put a product review on a site that’s completely irrelevant to the offer?’ Here are some things you should know about links:
1. Not all links are the same
The LinkinPark domain is a page rank 7, which means that the link juice coming from this domain is worth more than a page rank 6 and below. Domains with page rank this high, pretty much guarantee fast indexing by google and a greater probability that the review will get ranked.
2. Links need to be relevant
Making money online and LinkinPark are in no way relevant. While this affiliate is gaming the system right now, it’s only temporary – as Google frowns upon this type of linkbuilding. Only build links on sites that are in the same niche or industry as yourself.
Moral of the story? LinkinPark needs to fire their tech guys & your best chance to succeed long term in SEO is to build quality links!
See you at the top.
