I recently found a picture of me all dressed up for high school prom.
Needless to say, I didn’t get laid that night and for a really long time. LOL.
That’s right…
I was an 80-pound punching bag, a loser and a nerd my entire life growing up.
Born for average (at best).
I’m not supposed to be doing what I’m doing today.
If I were to go speak to my teenage self and try to predict where I’ll end up, there would be no way I’d see myself at where I am in life right now.
I’m not saying my life is perfect today.
But as I’m typing this message on an airplane flying business class from Singapore to San Francisco on a Monday afternoon, where I’m answerable to nobody, where money isn’t a concern anymore, have a great network of friends, doing whatever it is that I want, I’d say things turned out pretty damn good.
Here’s what I realized.
If you are currently a loser and a nerd just like I was, where success doesn’t seem like it’s meant for you, it’s because you’re a penguin trying to be a gorilla.
Let me explain.
If you were born a penguin, and your definition of success is being a gorilla, it doesn’t matter how hard you train, what type routine you have, you are set up for failure.
You’ll never become a gorilla.
Neither do you want to.
You want to be the best freaking penguin out there.
If you were born a fish and you’re trying to become a monkey, you’ll end up thinking you’re a failure your entire life.
By playing someone else’s game, playing by their rules, you’ll never achieve greatness.
You’ll never be Gary V.
You’ll never be Grant Cardone.
You’ll never be the Kardashians.
Play the game on your terms.
Be you… everyone else is taken.
Your present circumstances do not have to dictate who you can become. Embrace your awkward side. Double down on you. That’s what makes you UNIQUE.
Now go out there and stun the world with your weird eccentric side.
TLDR: I am still a nerd. Still shy and introverted. Still love playing computer games. Stay a nerd, don’t stay a loser.
