The other day someone was asking me if they should promote tangible or digital products.
So here’s my take on things.
Totally my own opinion based on experience. If you don’t agree, go do your own thing. It’s cool 🙂
With tangible products, the commission payout is low.
As low as 4%.
On top of that delivery and shipment of the product may take a few days or weeks to reach the customer depending on the geographical location of the two. So there’s always a risk of an unhappy customer.
Then you have to deal with products going out of stock. How can you sell something that isn’t there to be sold?
Keep in mind you’re promoting a tangible product so it has to function exactly how the customer wants it to be. Expectations are higher.
And to top it all off, it’s a one-time sale.
So once your customer receives the product, that’s it.
That being said, if you target the really high-ticket items you can really make quite a lot of cash.
A fellow marketer friend of mine used to dabble in the Amazon affiliate program and targeted books.
Of course he would only make around a dollar per sale of a book.
But the great thing is that as long as that customer clicks your affiliate link, any further purchases they make on Amazon will be credited to you.
Now with digital products you have much higher commissions.
75% is the norm on a Clickbank front end sale.
And if you do your research, it’s very possible to nab 100% commissions off certain products.
Plus there’s the back end sales funnel, which is always more lucrative than the front end.
You know the drill.
Recurring billing from a single purchase.
Good stuff for months (sometimes even years) to come.
And of course you never have to worry about a digital product running out of stock.
And the thing I like the most about digital products is that you are selling information.
Information never goes out of style. It will always be in demand.
There will always be people looking to get healthier, lose weight faster, find love easier, make more money and so on.
In my opinion, if you are really serious about affiliate marketing, promote digital products.
