The first book I ever received on how to make money online was The Adsense Code by Joel Comm 9 years ago. Joel is a speaker, consultant, entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author of 12 books. I had the privilege of sharing the stage with Joel over the weekend and took the opportunity to pick his brains on book publishing and how to get a bestseller.
In this mini-interview, discover Joel’s advice on why you need to have your own book, how to publish one in a week, and the marketing secrets to going viral, generating leads and gaining profit in the back-end.
Here are some of the highlights:
- A traditionally published book is the single greatest positioning tool you can have, it will give you instant authority and credibility in your niche
- The trick to publishing your book is to have fun, share your content and don’t try to do everything yourself
- Consider giving away your book for free to associates, potential partners, customers or clients; the $3 you spend on publishing could lead to a $10,000 sale down the road
- As a lead gen tool, your book delivers massive value that will not only generate profits in the back-end, but also allows you to get to know your audience/followers
Personally, it took me 5 years to complete my first book Build a Money Machine. The main thing that kept keeping the project held back was me. As a perfectionist I was constantly writing and re-writing the content, eventually scrapping the whole thing then starting from scratch. I can’t even remember how many versions the book has gone through.
Ironically I’m always telling my students that it isn’t about perfection, but progress. The important thing is getting it down and then later getting it right. It’s funny how much easier it is to give good advice than it is to actually take it!
So if you’ve been wanting to write your own book but haven’t been able to make progress, I hope this serves as motivation for you to get started. Using Amazon Create Space you can now self-publish very easily. This is a service I’ve used in the past and it has worked out really well.
